Ethical Guidelines for Fundraising in Norway

The ethical guidelines for fundraising in Norway were developed in collaboration with Fundraising Norway (formerly the Norwegian Fundraising Council).

The guidelines are based on five main points:

  1. Honesty
    • Fundraisers must act honestly and truthfully so that donors are not misled
  2. Respect
    • Fundraisers must act with respect for donors and recipients and in accordance with the purpose of the fundraiser.
  3. Integrity
    • Fundraisers must be transparent about any actual and/or potential conflicts of interest, whether personal or financial.
  4. Understanding the donor’s situation
    • Fundraisers must act in accordance with best practices in fundraising, which place great emphasis on donors’ privacy and freedom of choice.
  5. Transparency
    • Transparency is essential for building donors’ sense of security and trust. Fundraisers must be transparent about all financial and organizational/governance matters regarding which donors may, with reasonable cause, request access to and information about.
    • The financial statements and reports submitted must specify the work performed, how the funds raised are managed and used, and provide information on other revenues and expenses. The information must be presented accurately and clearly.
