IK was founded in September 1991 as a foundation with official approval. IKs main goal is to safeguard the public interest in order to ensure that organizations which carry out fundraising activities for humanitarian, cultural or religious causes etc. establish and follow satisfactory routines for the control and monitoring of all funds raised and how those funds are used. 

The Fundraising-Registry

The Fundraising Registry is based on a law which came into force July 1st 2009. The Ministry of Culture has assigned IK the task of developing and being the registrar for the Fundraising-Registry. At present time 94 organizations are registered, including almost all the major organizations. The number of applicants is growing, and we are for the time being processing several applications.

  Conditions for registration
At least 65% of collected funds must go to the stated purpose (over a timespan of 3 years). 
Accounts must be in accordance with established standards for accounting and IK guidelines for accounting.  
There is a requirement of external auditors which must be either a registered auditor or a Certified Public Accountant. 

Applying organizations must be registered in The Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities as well as the Volunteer Registry. 
The Fundraising-Registry shall, in accordance with the Collection Registry Act, be self-funded. The incomes are based on an enrolment fee and annual fees. The annual fee is based on the fundraisers gross income, but set to a maximum of NOK 40.000 (€ 5.000).
